On using the English term Oblique they suggest the multiplying powers of lateral thought and abstract strategies as a challenge to straight-line narratives too often expected from art. In working through such ideas and possibilities, most importantly, these two unique artists offer us new perspectives on conceptual and aesthetic pleasures. And there is nothing oblique about that.

For Craig Easton (NZ/AUST) an abstraction of established motifs and signs undergoes continual transformations via a restless painting practice using subtle surface shifts, heightened materiality, ambiguous referential geometries and text forms alongside installation and mirroring strategies common to both artists.

Artists Huang Zhejun and Craig Easton use their own abstract language to create their work. Both of their works adopt minimalist aesthetics to indirectly express the complex layers of space. Although the two artists live and grow up in different cultures backgrounds, the audience can still find many philosophical and poetic similarities in their works.
