专访尼伯特酒庄主,葡萄牙醉具影响力酿酒师之一 | Interview with Winemaker Dirk Niepoort

Eduard Dirk Niepoort, the fifth generation of the Niepoort family, is now at the helm of the family business. His passion for wines and the humble respect and curiosity for the Douro terroir defined Niepoort spirit over the last two decades and is a constant inspiration and challenge to his team. Who were your mentors in wine?


Dirk将此归功于他的父亲Rudolf Niepoort,以及他们的酿酒师Jose Nogueira。

Dirk gave the credit to his father Rudolf Niepoort, and their blender Jose Nogueira Senior.

Niepoort is a family business since 1842. Through five generations, the business passed successfully from one Niepoort to the next Niepoort and in most cases older and younger generation worked side by side for a long period.


1987年Dirk正式加入其父亲Rudolf,在保留传统的基础上,进行创新研发,2005年Eduard Rudolph Niepoort退休后,Dirk成为了尼伯特的掌门人。

In 1987 Dirk joined his father Rudolf Niepoort in the family business and was challenged to innovate maintaining the good traditions. Since the formal retirement of Eduard Rudolph Niepoort in 2005, Dirk took over the rein.

The art of Master Blender has also passed from generation to generation. The Nogueira family have been the master blenders of the port wines since the beginning. José Nogueira was the fourth of his family to pursue his art in Niepoort, having worked at the company for over 50 years. In 2010, the Niepoort family celebrated the "50 Years of Service" of the Master Blender José Nogueira.

什么是好的波特酒?

What makes a good Port?


对于Dirk来说,对细节的专注是将其与其他生产商区分开来的地方。杜罗河岸的独特风土,上科尔戈的葡萄园,传统的酿酒技术,甚至是老葡萄藤和旧橡木桶的使用,都是酿造出好的波特酒的关键。

For Dirk, a strict attention to detail is what makes his approach different from others. The unique terroir of the Douro, the special vineyards in Cima Corgo, old fashioned winemaking, even the age of barrels and vines, every small detail is the key to making good Ports.


事实上,1987年Dirk最先开始酿酒时,他迈出的重要一步就是收购了第一批自己的葡萄园:位于上科尔戈的Quinta de Nápoles和Quinta do Carril。该地区传统上出产醉好的波特葡萄酒。Dirk在那新种植了15公顷的葡萄园,并精心维护了10公顷60年的老葡萄藤。

Actually when Dirk first started to make wine in 1987, the first important step he took was the acquisition of the first own vineyards: Quinta de Nápoles and Quinta do Carril in Cima Corgo, a region that traditionally produces the best Port Wines; 15 hectares of vineyards were newly planted, and 10 hectares 60-year old vines were carefully maintained.


在生产过程中,尼伯特波特酒的储存、混酿、陈年、装瓶和贴标都在Vila Nova de Gaia酒窖进行。盖亚的酒窖非常古老,所有储藏室都必须全年保持在15ºC,以确保葡萄酒优雅地陈化,酿制出无与伦比的口感。

When it comes to the production, the storage, blending, ageing, bottling, and labelling of Port takes place at the Vila Nova de Gaia cellars. The cellars in Gaia are very old and all storage rooms have to be cooled down to 15ºC all year round to make sure the wines age gracefully to produce an unparalleled taste.


最后当被问到是否对竞争愈发激烈的波特酒市场感到压力时,Dirk轻描淡写的答道,“我毫无压力,只会更加努力去做的更好。波特酒越来越好,这是一件好事情。”

Lastly, when asked if he felt intimidated by possible new rivals in the Port market, Dirk took it very lightly, ‘I don’t feel threatened if at all but inspired to make better and look into details. It’s good if Ports get better.’

While Port wines continue to remain as a strong offering, Niepoort has also expanded their wine range to other areas. What’s your mission for Niepoort?


Dirk希望不仅仅让更多人认识葡萄牙优质的葡萄酒,同时也让葡萄牙的美食和文化发扬光大。

Dirk’s mission is to make Portugal better known for wine but also culture and food.


自20世纪90年代末从父亲手中接手酒庄以来,Dirk将尼伯特发展成为了世界上醉受尊敬和醉具创新性的葡萄酒品牌之一,从传统的波特出发,拓展和探索新的来自杜罗、拜拉达和杜奥产区的葡萄酒,重新定义杜罗河谷葡萄酒。

Since taking the reins from his father in late 1990s, Dirk has developed the Niepoort estate into one of the most respected and innovative wine brands in the world, branching out from their traditional Ports to expand and explore new range of Douro dry wines, Bairrada, and Dão etc., with the aim of redefining what a wine from the Douro valley can be.

Niepoort's mission is to maintain its position of "niche player", continuing to produce distinctive ports and Douro wines, combining the undeniable legacy of Portugal's winemaking past with the possibilities of innovation.

"Could we do any better? It depends. It depends on Niepoort continuing to make dreams come true, depends on the creation of the appropriate procedures and maintains the willingness to learn what characterizes us. But above all, the answer lies in the pleasure we gain from what we do.”

您个人最喜欢的波特是哪款?有没有什么当地美食经常与波特酒搭配的?

What local dishes are usually served with Port? What’s your personal favourite?


“1945年份波特是我的个人最爱。我推荐我父亲发明的黑椒牛排与年轻波特酒的搭配方式。”

‘Niepoort vintage 1945. And one pairing invented by my father was pepper steak with young Vintage Port.’


Dirk带来了一种颠覆性的、但紧跟时代的国际视角,让人们对葡萄牙产区和葡萄酒有了更为纯粹和现代的理解。他对葡萄牙酒和风土人情在海内外的传播所作出的贡献同样不容小觑。

By bringing a disruptive but extremely well-informed international perspective, Dirk has allowed for a purer and modern understanding of Portugal’s regions and grapes. His impact on how Portuguese wine and terroirs are perceived, at home and around the world, cannot be underestimated.


然而,Dirk坦诚葡萄牙酒在中国市场仍有很长的一段路要走。虽然人们对其认知度还不是很高,但只要有机会品尝,会立马爱上它的口感。

However, Dirk has admitted that Port / Portuguese wines are still ‘not well known’ in the Chinese market, but ‘when tasted very well liked’.
