本次展览展出厦门大学创意与创新学院环境设计专业二、三年级学生针对当代环境挑战所进行的一系列材料与室内设计研究。
在《环境与技术》课程中,二年级学生通过针对特定建筑元素的实验性原型开发,探讨了建筑材料所产生的负面影响。
在识别出当地常用建筑材料后,他们被要求重新诠释瓦、砖、砌块及透光板材,思考将其作为传统材料与方法的更可持续的替代品。
这些项目通过重新思考材料的获取、制造与使用方式,探索降低环境影响的方法。学生们采用再生的或更低影响的构件、将废弃材料转化为新用途,或减少生产过程中的能耗,来应对材料的隐含碳排放问题。这些方法都考虑到了如何改善建筑材料在整个使用周期中对环境的影响。
通过反复的实验,学生们深入了解了材料生产的过程,并增强了对材料属性、性能、美学及感官特质的认知。他们的实验既揭示了创造可替代传统建筑产品的机遇,也展示了其中的局限性。
在制作与测试的过程中,学生们还培养了批判性评估的研究能力,这些能力是为形成达到可持续目标的个人策略性方法所必需的。许多项目也汲取了存在于中国及世界各地乡土建筑传统中的隐含知识,展示了历史实践如何启迪未来的设计解决方案。
下一步,须将这些研究整合为切实可行的设计提案,这些提案应结合降低运营能耗的可持续策略,全面介绍气候变化带来的实际挑战和解决办法。

EXHIBITION INTRO
This exhibition presents a series of material and interior design investigations by ICI Year 2 and 3 Environmental Design students responding to contemporary environmental challenges.
In Environment and Technology, Year 2 students addressed the negative impact caused by construction materials through the development of experimental prototypes for specific building elements.
Having identified common local construction materials, they were challenged to reinterpret tiles, bricks, mass units, and translucent sheets as more sustainable alternatives to conventional materials and methods.
The projects explore ways to reduce environmental impact by reconsidering how materials are sourced, made, and used. Students address embodied carbon through regenerative or lower impact components, by diverting waste materials into new applications, or by reducing the energy required during production. Together, these approaches consider how the whole life impact of building materials may be improved.
Through iterative experimentation, students gained insight into the processes involved in materials production, and awareness of material properties, performance, aesthetics, and sensory qualities. The work reveals both the opportunities and limitations involved in creating viable alternatives to conventional construction products.
Alongside making and testing, students have developed critically evaluative research skills needed to form personal strategic approaches to meeting sustainability goals. Many projects also draw upon tacit knowledge evident in vernacular building traditions in China and around the world, demonstrating how historical practices can inform future design solutions.
The next step is to integrate these into practicable design proposals, which in conjunction with sustainable strategies to reduce operational energy for an overall introduction to the practical challenges and range of solutions to climate change.

厦门大学创意与创新学院美术馆于2022年11月落成,位于厦门大学漳州校区。作为一座研究型美术馆,我们致力于当代艺术与设计作品和项目的展示,推动新知识生产与传播,构建一个跨文化与跨学科的创新设计教育与学术研究的交流平台。以展览、论坛、讲座、工作坊、文献梳理等不同形式,促进学科之间的开放融合,激发当代创新活力,探索社会和精神空间的无限可能。


厦门大学创意与创新学院(Institute of Creativity and Innovation,Xiamen University)是厦门大学(XMU)与英国创意艺术大学(UCA)在艺术设计领域开展合作,经教育部2019年批准成立的厦门大学首个中外合作办学机构,于2020年9月开始办学。学院融合中英双方先进教育理念和特色教育资源,致力于培养一批时代所需的,具有全球视野、批判性思维、先进创意理念与创新能力的高素质、应用型本科拔尖创新人才。
