In
November, Wine Channel went to Qingtian, Zhejiang to participate in the grand QWine

Here is the interview content:
What does it mean talking about wine in China for European?
-Cassidy Dart:
Sure so I think that my simple answer
would be, in China we just have to encourage consumption and growth of wine
full stop if we talk to detailed sometimes we can put consumers offline. So for
me it's just about getting more people drinking wine and of course Tuscany they
have heard of by trying to make Tuscany approachable acceptable and
understanding that it's a premium really interesting part of the wine region
that's what it's about.
Please tell us about your
memories about wine in China.
Wow so many! I mean I don't know what to
start but the most exciting thing is talking to people who don't know why but
they've tried one glass of wine and they want to learn about it. When I worked
in London it was amazing but we're talking about people like an Italian who
have drank wine for so long and they have very firm ideas about wine they only
like Bordeaux or burgundy or Tuscany or whatever. The magic of China is that we
can just grow the category and they like alcohol, they like drinking, they're
like being social like Italian people, they want to share, they want to drink
and so really for me my job is to be evangelical about wine and just persuade
them whether it's Moscato or whether it's Sassicaia``` just to enjoy a glass of
wine and if we can do that step by step we can grow. So yeah I've had amazing
experiences drinking amazing wines in crazy places all over China so for me it
was so happy to be sharing wine in a country as big as beautiful as diverse
China.
How do you think Chinese wine market and the knowledge will grow in this year ?
I think we should recognize that things
are tough, the economy is not easy, people are unsure about the growth and Chinese
they are very conservative when things are not sure, they don't spend money. So
it's going to be tough but when the tough times is when you invest and when you
try harder and you open more bottles and you do more master classes and you do
more events and they will always be spacing the category because people will
spend less money on certain wines because someone's were overpriced and they
were not sure. look it's not easy but I'm always optimistic when I walk around,
I see an amazing Italian producer from a monferrato showing an amazing ruché I
have no drank ruché for a long time and I see someone coming here wanting to
share their Enthusiasm for an appellation in the north of Italy that is 100
hectares that shows me that the potential that this country has. My conclusion
is, it's not easy for sure it's not easy but when things are easy you work
harder that's the only option otherwise all you do is just complain about how
difficult it is and then it's like the self perpetuating. So I'm always as an
optimist, especially about wine.
