前言
芝加哥，这座城市常常以其现代天际线与工业基础设施被加以描述，但在更深层的历史脉络中，它同样由另一种力量所塑造：来自不同社群对“如何共同生活”的持续想象与集体劳动。本次展览将芝加哥视为一种方法论——通过对话和共享的社群生活来生产文化。在街区和艺术家的空间中，艺术实践并非源于主流叙事，而是个人经验和集体故事的交织。受到思想家 bell hooks 所提出的观念启发——“挚爱共同体并非通过消除差异而形成，而是在于对差异的肯认”——本项目提出“芝加哥作为方法”（The Chicago Method），将艺术理解为一种社会性过程：在这一过程中，人们相遇于历史，拼合身份，维系对话，并在当代城市不断变动的结构之中，共同想象新的归属形式。
Chicago, often described through its modern skylines and industrial infrastructure, has long been shaped by another force: the collective labor of communities imagining how to live together. This exhibition approaches Chicago not simply as a place, but as a method—a way of producing culture through dialogue, improvisation, and shared communal life. Across neighborhoods, classrooms, and artist-run spaces, cultural practices emerge through collective experimentation rather than dominant or centralized narratives. Inspired by bell hooks, who writes that “beloved community is formed not by the eradication of difference but by its affirmation,” this project proposes The Chicago Method as a way of understanding art as a social process: a process of encountering histories, assembling identities, sustaining dialogue, and collectively imagining new forms of belonging within the shifting fabric of the contemporary urban landscape.
