NUOVO Gallery will present artist Zhang Na's solo exhibition "Glowing In Trance" on June 21, 2026. This exhibition is artist Zhang Na's first solo exhibition at NUOVO Gallery, featuring over 10 works created by the artist in recent years.

Zhang Na's works are a visual writing of "vitality." Through abstract forms, she embodies the height of spirituality (the axis of energy); through soft colors and curves, she carries the warmth and inclusiveness of femininity (the body and gestation); ultimately, this condenses into a pure, rhythmic visual experience full of inner energy.

We can approach Zhang Na's works from three perspectives: abstraction, femininity, and spirituality.

Zhang Na's creative practice belongs to "lyrical abstraction" or "color abstraction." It completely strips away concrete objects, relying neither on stories, scenes, nor figures for narration, but purely on the emotional tension of colors and the trajectory of brushstrokes to construct visual order. She continues and develops the traditions of geometric abstraction and lyrical abstraction. However, it is rare to see cold straight lines or sharp angles in her paintings. Her abstraction is "organic, fluid, and warm." She uses the rhythm of brush pressure and the layering and penetration of colors to simulate the physical rhythms of wind, water, and light, as well as the beating of a heart and the rhythm of breathing—this is an "abstraction of life."

The color texture of her paintings is particularly distinctive: the interweaving of pale pink, flesh-white, bright yellow, and red carries a strong "sense of the flesh." These soft tones and outward-growing curves easily evoke the gentle yet powerful body of a woman. The red column at the center of the composition, flanked by pink and green arcs, carries metaphors of the womb, petals, or the passage of life. It rejects the traditional objectification of women as "objects to be gazed upon" in art, instead transforming the vitality, fertility, and natural power of women themselves into abstract rhythms. The layers of curved lines resemble both the curves of a woman's body and the pulsation of life during gestation, revealing a power of inclusiveness, acceptance, and endless vitality.

In spiritual exploration, this strong sense of centrality often symbolizes the "spine" and the "central channel" (Sushumna)—as if energy (Kundalini) rises from the base; it also evokes the "axis mundi" or the "Tree of Life." The symmetrical halos expanding outward on both sides seem like the oscillation and resonance of energy within the body or the universe. The strong contrast between yellow-green and deep blue creates a sacred, dreamlike spiritual field, possessing a sense of meditative inward contemplation. It does not depict external reality but rather projects an inner spiritual landscape.

On the spiritual dimension, the strong sense of centrality and symmetrical halos in Zhang Na's works point not only to the inner "spine" or "central channel" but also to the visual manifestation of the primordial cosmic energy— an energy that exists in every living being, shared by all, and serving as the foundation for the interconnection of all things. Women, as the vessels of procreation, possess a unique capacity to link different dimensional worlds due to the specificity of their bodies and the gestational process: the transformation of life from non-existence into existence is itself a transcendent experience crossing the boundaries between the material and the spiritual. The burning red line, the radiating halos, and the soft flesh-toned colors collectively construct a supra-consciousfield, inviting the viewer to transcend everyday cognition and sense the invisible yet truly flowing cosmic vitality.
