Foreword III
山水,是中国文化最具灵魂性的核心意象,是东方美学的精神源头,更是中国人观照宇宙、安顿心灵、体悟生命的精神载体。它不止是自然山川的物理形貌,更是天人合一、生生不息的哲学境界。今天,身处全球化与AI时代,人类面临自然与心灵、传统与现代、物质与精神的多重矛盾,“山水”蕴含的生态智慧、生命哲思与心灵安顿之道,或可成为超越地域与文化的人类共通精神资源。
ShanShui ( 山水,Literal translation: mountain-water ) stands as one of the core imageries in traditional Chinese culture. It serves as the spiritual origin of Eastern aesthetics, and also a spiritual medium for Chinese people to perceive the universe, calm their minds and comprehend life. Far beyond the physical appearance of natural mountains and rivers, ShanShui embodies the philosophical realm of harmony between humanity and nature, as well as perpetual vitality.
In this era of globalization and artificial intelligence, people are confronted with multiple contradictions between nature and mind, tradition and modernity, material and spirit. The ecological wisdom, philosophy of life and spiritual peace embedded in the ShanShui-oriented worldview may evolve into shared spiritual resources for all mankind that transcend regional and cultural boundaries.
本次“去往从来——山水为题”布鲁塞尔展览,是上海油画雕塑院推动当代中国艺术走向国际、开展海外文化交流的重要实践。展览主题“去往从来——山水为题”有两层含义:一是以“去往从来”之名,去往文化本源,从来处走向未来;二是以“山水”为媒,连接东方与西方、历史与当下、心灵与世界。
This exhibition held in Brussels marks a significant endeavor by the Shanghai Oil Painting & Sculpture Institute to promote contemporary Chinese art onto the international stage and conduct overseas cultural exchanges. Titled "An Odyssey between past and present—ShanShui as Theme", the exhibition bears two implications. It explores the origin of Shanshui culture to embrace the future rooted in tradition. It also takes ShanShui as a bridge connecting the East and the West, history and the present, the inner mind and the outer world.
展览汇集了22位具有代表性的中国艺术家的45件(组)作品,涵盖雕塑、绘画、综合材料、装置、影像等多元艺术形式,以跨代际、跨领域的丰富创作实践,对东方山水意象展开多方位当代诠释。从深耕艺坛的前辈名家,到极具创造力的青年创作者,艺术家们打破固有程式,以个人化视觉语言与观念表达,传承文脉底蕴、解构经典图式,重构当代山水精神内核。有的以雕塑塑山川风骨,以形体承载天地静气;有的以笔墨书写,演绎东方意境;有的以综合材料与装置,重构山水的空间诗意;有的以影像流动,呈现自然与生命的共生韵律。作品面貌各异,内质却一脉相承——皆以山水为魂,在传统与当代的碰撞中,完成创造性转化与创新性发展。
The exhibition gathers 45 artworks created by 22 distinguished Chinese artists, covering diverse artistic forms including sculpture, painting, mixed media, installation and video art. Spanning generations and artistic disciplines, these creations interpret the classical Chinese landscape imagery from diverse contemporary perspectives.
The participating artists include prestigious veteran artists and innovative young creators. Breaking away from conventional stereotypes, they inherit cultural heritage, deconstruct classic patterns and reshape the spiritual essence of contemporary ShanShui through their personalized visual languages and conceptual expressions.
Some sculptures recreate the solemn bearing of mountains and rivers, embodying the serene aura of heaven and earth. Ink paintings interpret profound Eastern artistic conception. Mixed media and installation works reconstruct the spatial poetic charm of ShanShui. Video works present the harmonious rhythm coexisting between nature and life.
Diverse in artistic styles, all works share an inherent spiritual consistency. Centered on ShanShui, they achieve creative transformation and innovative development amid the integration of tradition and modernity.
今年适逢中比建交55周年,期待在布鲁塞尔这座多元文化交汇之城,中国山水不再是遥远的东方符号,而是可感知、共鸣与对话的视觉与精神载体。在此,向所有鼎力支持本次展览的机构和各界人士致以诚挚谢意。期盼以艺术为纽带,让世界感受并领略中国艺术的魅力与当代活力。
This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium. In Brussels, a hub of multicultural integration, we hope Chinese ShanShui will no longer remain a remote Eastern symbol, but a tangible visual and spiritual carrier that inspires resonance and cross-cultural dialogue.
I sincerely extend my gratitude to all institutions and individuals who have generously supported this exhibition. It is our aspiration that this art event will act as a bond, enabling the world to appreciate the charm and dynamic vitality of contemporary Chinese art.
