施意 Shi Yi

Hua International is pleased to announce our participation in LISTE Art Fair Basel 2026, presenting a two-person booth featuring the Italian-born, Swiss-based artist Alfredo Aceto and the Chinese artist Shi Yi at Booth 64 from 15–21 June 2026.

Approaching Craig Owens’ notion of allegory, the presentation explores questions of masculinity, identity formation, and hegemonic cultural structures. Continuing Hua International’s commitment to amplifying underrepresented perspectives and fostering cross-cultural dialogue, the booth brings together two distinct artistic practices through a shared engagement with the body, memory, and social reality.

Working across sculpture, installation, photography, and sound, Alfredo Aceto constructs spaces suspended between fiction and reality. Rooted in autobiography and corporeal experience, his work examines the ways in which identity is shaped through social structures, personal histories, and systems of representation. Marking his European debut and first participation in an international art fair, Shi Yi draws from the visual traditions of his hometown Chaozhou alongside Western, particularly Italian, art historical references. Through allegorical narratives, his paintings investigate identity, social behavior, cultural memory, and the ideological frameworks that underpin everyday life.

Bringing together two artists from different cultural contexts, the presentation reflects on marginal experience, cultural translation, and contemporary subjectivity. Through distinct yet resonant visual languages, Alfredo Aceto and Shi Yi offer new perspectives on how personal and collective narratives are constructed, performed, and remembered.

Shi Yi

Born in Guangdong in 1993. Graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with a bachelor's degree in 2017. Graduated from Accademia di belle arti di VENEZIA with a master's degree in 2021. Currently works and resides in Beijing.

Shi Yis paintings draw from the realms of religion, folklore, and mass media. He captures emotionally charged moments and, through bodily language, invites the audience into a psychological space that fosters a deeper understanding of individual emotions and social interactions. The bodily details depicted in his workssuch as gestures and facial expressionsserve not only as externalizations of emotions but also as profound cultural and psychological symbols, hinting at the sociocultural structures and ideologies underpinning these actions and expressions.

Alfredo Aceto

其个展曾举办于 Parliament Unlimited(巴黎,法国)、Lange + Pult(日内瓦及苏黎世,瑞士)、Centre d’Art Contemporain(洛桑,瑞士)、Hua International(北京,中国)以及 Kunsthalle Sankt Gallen(瑞士)。其群展经历包括 Kunstraum am Schauplatz(维也纳,奥地利)、MAMCO(日内瓦,瑞士)、Swiss Art Awards(巴塞尔,瑞士)以及 Fondazione Merz(巴勒莫,意大利)等机构与项目。

Alfredo Aceto (b. 1991, Turin) lives and works in Geneva, Switzerland. His practice includes film, installation, photography, text and sculpture, and is mainly concerned with the body and biography. Using, among others, sculpture, film and sound, Alfredo Aceto creates spaces suspended between fiction and reality. His environments are places to live, in which one can find a sort of melancholy, artificial time alteration and image saturation. The objects he produces are traces, functional elements for the construction of the space where the blurred boundaries between his personal timeline and the collective one express the way chronology can be manipulated. His work arises from the will to create a place where the various strata of a linear form of time would mix together, turning into a platform from which signs of different ages emerge. Alfredo Aceto nurtures his own research by questioning his own self and, more generally, the ego that reigns in every person, even if only on a latent level.

Alfredo Aceto studied Fine Arts at ECAL (École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne). His work has been exhibited in many international surveys, including DOC!, Paris; Museo Pietro Canonica, Rome; Museo del Novecento, Milan; Centre d’Art Contemporain de Genève, Geneva; Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, St. Gallen; and Kunsthaus Glarus, Glarus. Aceto is currently teaching at ECAL in Lausanne. The artist’s solo exhibitions include shows at Parliament Unlimited (Paris, France), Lange + Pult (Geneva and Zurich, Switzerland), Centre d’Art Contemporain (Lausanne, Switzerland), Hua International (Beijing, China), and Kunsthalle Sankt Gallen (Switzerland). Group exhibitions include shows at Kunstraum am Schauplatz (Vienna, Austria), MAMCO (Geneva, Switzerland), the Swiss Art Awards (Basel, Switzerland), and Fondazione Merz (Palermo, Italy).
