草原不仅是一种自然地貌，更是一种空间经验。那里，视线随着大地不断延伸，天空、风与土地彼此交融，传统意义上的边界与尺度逐渐消隐。面对这样辽阔而近乎无界的环境，建筑不再只是对场地的占据，而是在广袤之中重新建立人与自然、人与人之间的联系。
“无界之间”既来自草原的感知，也贯穿张鹏举长期以来的建筑实践。无论是草原、乡村还是城市，他的作品始终关注建筑如何回应地景、材料与日常生活：不以强烈的形式姿态压倒场地，也不将地域经验简化为表层的风貌再现，而是在平实的建造中，通过对环境、材料与日常使用的回应，形成细腻可感的尺度与层层展开的空间经验。
本次展览以张鹏举2025年阿卡汗建筑奖获奖作品为起点，同时延伸至其在不同环境中的持续探索，呈现一种关于建筑、地景与生活方式之间关系的思考。
The grassland is not simply a landscape; it suggests a particular way of experiencing space. Across the open plain, the eye travels uninterrupted into the distance, while sky, wind, and earth merge into a continuous field. In such an environment, familiar notions of boundary, enclosure, and even architectural scale begin to gradually dissolve. architecture is no longer merely an occupation of site, but a means of re-establishing connections between human beings and nature, and among people themselves.
This sense of the “boundless” lies at the core of ZHANG Pengju’s work. Whether in the grasslands, rural villages, or urban settings, his projects resist both the dominance of iconic form and the superficial reproduction of regional imagery. Instead, they emerge through grounded and genuine construction, shaped by careful engagement with landscape, material, climate, and everyday use. What results are spaces of subtle yet palpable scale, where spatial experience unfolds gradually through movement, occupation, and daily life.
Beginning with ZHANG Pengju’s Aga Khan Award for Architecture – winning project of 2025, this exhibition also presents a broader selection of works across different contexts and environments. Together, they reflect an ongoing exploration of how architecture may mediate between landscape and habitation, openness and intimacy, collective life and individual experience.

张鹏举的作品大多在内蒙古，规模不大，投资标准也不高，但他始终面对具体的场地与资源，认认真真地想，认认真真地画。每一个空间、每一种材料，都经过仔细推敲，找到最好或者说最合适的位置，不夸张，不勉强，不造作。
Most of ZHANG Pengju’s projects are built in Inner Mongolia. Modest in scale and realized with limited budgets, they nonetheless reveal a careful engagement with the specific conditions of site and available resources. He thinks rigorously, working through each problem with great seriousness, and draws with patience and precision. Every space and every material is deliberately considered until it finds its best — or rather, its most appropriate — place: nothing exaggerated, nothing forced, nothing contrived.

张鹏举的作品呈现出一位建筑师如何在几何、材料、使用与环境等维度中，持续界定并培育一种地形秩序；在他的实践中，建筑与地形之间的契合清晰可见。他的建筑在风景之中找到自身的位置，并使地形中潜藏的秩序获得可见的形式。
ZHANG’s work shows an architect engaged in defining and cultivating topographical order, in all its geometric, material, practical, and environmental dimensions; throughout his practice, congruity between architecture and terrain is beautifully evident, as his buildings find their place within the landscape and give visible form to the latent order of terrain.

在边地的长久实践，给了张鹏举以本能与直觉去关注土地的机会，也给了他坚持朴素命题的可能。他的工作中总有一种“笨拙”，那是持久的认真，对自己认真，每一个作品都是一场以实践来进行的艰难思考。那是对便利的抵抗，也是建筑师人之为人的尊严。
Years of working in remote frontier regions have given him a deep instinct for the land and a lasting commitment to fundamental questions. Across all his works, there is a certain “awkwardness” — a persistent and demanding seriousness. Each project thus becomes a difficult process of thinking through making, pursued with unusual rigor toward both the work and himself. In an age that often rewards efficiency and easy effects, this awkwardness becomes a quiet form of resistance — and also a form of dignity, the dignity of being an architect.

2026年5月25日，张鹏举院士建筑展《无界之间Amid the Boundless》将在东南大学亚洲建筑档案中心正式开展。
本次展览由东南大学亚洲建筑档案中心、东南大学建筑学院、阿卡汗建筑奖组委会及内蒙古工业大学建筑学院联合主办，展期将持续至9月30日。现场将集中呈现张鹏举院士的手绘草图、建筑模型与实景影像，带观展者进入草原空间的建筑实践历程。本次展览也是阿卡汗建筑奖展览的一部分。
此外，展览开幕式、学术研讨会与捐赠仪式定于2026年5月25日举行。
On May 25, 2026, the architectural exhibition Amid the Boundless by Academician ZHANG Pengju will officially open at the Asian Architectural Archive Center of Southeast University.
The exhibition is jointly organized by the Asian Architectural Archive Center of Southeast University, the School of Architecture of Southeast University, the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, and the School of Architecture of Inner Mongolia University of Technology. It will run until September 30. The exhibition will feature Academician ZHANG Pengju’s hand-drawn sketches, architectural models, and on-site photographic images, guiding visitors through his architectural practice journey in grassland spaces. This exhibition is also part of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture exhibition.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition, along with an academic seminar and donation ceremony, is scheduled for the morning of May 25, 2026.
