Prestige Gallery presents A Gaze in a World in Motion: Shui Tit Sing's Journeys, Lens and Modernity, on view from 16 May to 27 June 2026. Taking photography as its point of departure, the exhibition re-examines the practice of Shui Tit Sing, a key figure in 20th-century Singapore art, highlighting his work across painting, sculpture, and photography.
This exhibition follows the gallery's 2025 presentation Rediscovering Shui Tit Sing, and serves as a further extension of its ongoing research into the artist's oeuvre. While earlier studies focused primarily on painting and sculpture works from 1930-1960s, this exhibition brings renewed attention to Shui's photographic practice-long overlooked yet fundamental to his artistic development. As curator Shi Ruihao notes, photography in Shui's work is not merely a documentary tool, but a visual method that mediates between reality and form, experience and construction. His images not only record the social and cultural transformations of Southeast Asia, but also reveal how a modern artist continuously recalibrates his visual language and artistic position through cross-regional experience.
