My mother and I — we both must become ourselves.I often joke and call my mom "Ms. Hong," because she doesn't really have that "motherly" aura about her. She's just a little girl — soft on the outside, strong within, kind and pure, limited yet brave. She is simply herself. A person who has made me laugh countless times and cry just as many. When I forgive myself, I begin to embrace her. She says she is not just weaving objects — she is weaving imagination, weaving emotions, weaving the romance that words cannot speak. When her works are gently hung, it's like placing the beauty of imagination into the poetry of the air — as if every thread of light passing through the mesh could ripple with the agility and romance of life, turning the hardness of metal into soft, blossoming art. For me, painting is the ritual of life in action. Every stroke is an act of becoming — a true, whole existence. So I do not pursue the likeness seen by the eye; I pursue the likeness felt by the heart. I go to places language cannot reach, following the wisdom of the subconscious… The thickness or thinness of the paint, the decisiveness or hesitation of the lines, the clashes and responses of colors — they speak for me, they help me hear myself. Sometimes I marvel at how life resembles a mathematical formula. Probability theory works. It all comes down to proportions — the proportion of light and dark, of control and release, of knowing and not knowing. There is no right or wrong, only balance. Sometimes the situation is good. Then keep going — don't be afraid, no matter what lies ahead. Sometimes the situation is bad. Still, don't be afraid. Keep moving forward. Every step is an opportunity to change it. Every moment can be a fresh start. You can cover, revise, stop, or move ahead. No step is predestined to be wrong — trust me. Human clumsiness and courage fall together onto the canvas. Clumsy because we are never perfect; courageous because we are still painting, still present. Follow your fate. Embrace your will. What fate gives me, I catch it — and then paint it into my own. And so, I keep expressing. In the process, I become whole.

Hong Yan once dedicated herself deeply to teaching physics and information technology, and has now retired peacefully. Since childhood, she often watched her mother weave objects with colorful yarns — every stitch gentle, every piece vibrant, marking the long passage of time with beauty. Now in her nineties, her mother still persists in weaving, and this passion has never faded. After retirement, Hong Yan felt a longing to carry on her mother's weaving craft, yet she did not wish to be confined to traditional forms. She hoped to blend aesthetic sensibility, mathematical logic, and creative originality into a new expression of weaving. To this end, she continuously explored and experimented — trying punch needling, pipe cleaners, origami, quilling, and various other handicrafts — but none aligned with her vision. Then, inspired by the work of artist Ruth Asawa, she finally chose metal wire as her medium and embarked on the path of metal weaving. Since then, the artistic vision long buried in her heart has finally taken root, blossomed, and found its fulfillment.
