CHAxART is delighted to present Glazed Field Trip, a solo exhibition by Wil van Blokland, curated by CHAxART, on view in MAI Gallery Amsterdam, from May 15 to June 14, 2026 (open Tuesday–Sunday, 11:00–18:00).
The opening will take place at 15:00 on May 15, accompanied by our specialty tea and light refreshments as a welcome drink. Both the artist and the curator will be present to meet and engage with guests.

《以釉为迳》以艺术家蔚尔·范·布洛克兰长期持续的陶瓷实践为出发点，呈现一场基于田野经验的探索，关乎材料、时间与存在的本质。十余年来，艺术家往返于荷兰阿姆斯特丹与中国景德镇之间并持续创作，在不同的文化语境、工艺体系以及窑火所带来的转化性经验中，探究陶瓷作为一种精神性媒介的可能。
在她的实践中，“田野行旅”并不止于旅行之意，而是指向一种对场域的切身进入与回应——土地、工坊、材料与火焰。瓷土成为实验的场域，釉在高温中流动、熔融并转化，由此将时间、感知与材料的变化彼此联结。艺术家的作品生成于控制与偶然之间，并由温度、窑内气氛、矿物与火焰共同塑造。反复出现的形态暗示着自我与世界之间不断变化的关系。
展览呈现了她持续的追寻：通过一种在火与土之间展开的静默实践，揭示“我们存在的本质”，并在东方与西方之间建立联结。
“Glazed Field Trip” takes Wil van Blokland’s more than four decades of ceramic practice as its point of departure, unfolding as a field-based inquiry into material, time, and the conditions of existence. For over a decade, the artist has worked between Amsterdam and Jingdezhen, engaging ceramics as a reflective and spiritual medium shaped by differing cultural contexts, craft systems, and the transformative force of kiln fire.
In her practice, “Field Trip” extends beyond travel toward a hands-on mode of entering a site—land, workshop, material, and fire. Porcelain becomes a field of experimentation where glaze flows and transforms under high temperatures, linking time, perception, and material change. Each field of colour, trace, and glimmer emerges as a result that can never be fully predetermined. The recurring ovals, capsules, and abstract forms suggest structures of relation—connecting one person to another, and the individual to the wider world.
The exhibition reflects her ongoing search to reveal “the essence of our existence” through a quiet practice between fire and earth, bridging East and West. We warmly welcome you to experience this exhibition as a journey, encountering a subtle field where matter, process, and perception converge across cultures.

蔚尔·范·布洛克兰 / Wil van Blokland
蔚尔·范·布洛克兰（生于1954年）是一位荷兰陶瓷艺术家，拥有四十余年的陶土创作经验。她曾在阿姆斯特丹大学进修文化人类学，之后在阿姆斯特丹继续研习手工艺、纺织形式、空间设计与陶瓷。这一跨学科背景，使她的创作融合了材料研究、空间意识，以及对人与人之间连接的深切关注。她主要以陶瓷为媒介，创作抽象、克制且具有精神性的作品，试图揭示可见形态之下更本质的结构。自2010年以来，她定期到中国景德镇驻留创作，当地的陶瓷传统、釉料技艺、工艺系统与窑烧过程，成为其创作的重要灵感来源。在她的作品中，火焰、矿物、釉与偶然性都积极参与意义的生成。她的作品曾在国际范围内展出，并被博物馆、艺术机构及私人收藏。
Wil van Blokland (b.1954) is a Dutch ceramic artist with more than four decades of experience working with clay. Trained in cultural anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, and later in handcraft, textile forms, spatial design, and ceramics in Amsterdam, she has developed a practice that brings together material research, spatial awareness, and a deep interest in human connection. Working primarily with clay and porcelain, Wil creates abstract, restrained, and often monumental works that seek to reveal essential structures beneath visible forms. Since 2010, she has worked regularly in Jingdezhen, China, where local ceramic traditions, glaze techniques, craft systems, and kiln processes have become important sources of inspiration. In her work, fire, minerals, glaze, and chance actively participate in the formation of meaning. Her works have been exhibited internationally and are held in museum, institutional, and private collections.
