Yiwei Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by artist Kay Seohyung Lee (이서형) at NADA New York 2026. The exhibition will feature her newest body of work, produced between 2024 and 2026, which focuses on the pursuit of access in the midst of volatile shifts in global politics. Lee’s paintings capture the scramble for immigration status, the legal fortification of marriage, and the obsession with institutional prestige as people look for any available anchor in a destabilized world.

The artist explores a recurring tension that exists between different socioeconomic worlds and realities that are physically visible but structurally unreachable for the majority. In doing so, she highlights the psychological toll of teetering on the edge of these protected spheres, documenting the effort required to navigate invisible gates while the geopolitical floor shifts.

Within Lee’s work, social spaces such as greenhouses, botanical gardens and parks - designed to look common and accessible, yet represent a controlled environment that mimics public space while maintaining strict social boundaries - are representations of the social and financial barriers that define the current era. Lee focuses on the transactional nature of belonging, where basic human rights are pursued with the same intensity as a high-stakes investment.

Lee invites the audience at NADA NYC 2026 to discuss a society’s relationship with its own barriers, the public urgency of access, and the ways in which we negotiate our current survival while reaching for a future that remains gated.
