Under the cold gaze of the Second Law of Thermodynamics, the universe is an irreversible collapse. Entropy, a physical measure of systemic disorder, acts like an invisible hand driving all things from order to chaos. Rooted in "restrained and moderate abstraction", this exhibition seeks to articulate, through visual silence, the fate that all energy will eventually return to repetition and stillness. This is the original intention of our intimate exhibition—to let art be the medium for questioning order and chaos.
The SumSum Exhibition centers on the core theme "The Futility of Entropy Reduction: The Ultimate Vision of Restraint and Repetition". Free from noisy crowds and deliberate pandering, it fosters a gentle resonance between artworks and space. Every piece and every corner holds undisturbed healing and philosophical reflections on existence.
Bringing together artists such as Tan Ping, Cai Lei, and Leng Guangmin, the exhibition presents distinct yet precise languages of restraint, collectively exploring the boundary between order and chaos. Tan Ping uses repeated layering and improvisational acrylic brushwork to capture suspended moments between chaos and balance, recording persistent attempts to resist disorder through traces and revisions. Cai Lei folds spatial dimensions, reconstructing perceptual order disrupted by chaos in the visual paradox between painting and sculpture, introspection and extension.
Leng Guangmin reconstructs surfaces through incision and carving, constructing rational monuments with cool geometry and mottled textures amid destruction, filling, integrity, and fragmentation.
Just as Wassily Kandinsky stripped material appearances and Piet Mondrian pursued cosmic balance, these artists embrace disciplined repetition and essential minimalism. Amid the thermodynamically fated flood of entropy, they use art as a vehicle to confront chaos and pursue the ultimate truth of existence. Rejecting trends and excessive narrative, they refine through repetition, construct with reason, and express in silence, continuously fighting disorder in canvas and space. This lies at the heart of the exhibition: even as all things tend toward entropy, humanity persistently uses art as a vessel to build order amid chaos and preserve tranquility in noise.
These time-honed masterpieces are more than a visual feast—they are a spiritual antidote that SumSum Connectsoffers to contemporary society. The works invite us to slow down and be still, to find strength in restraint, see essence in minimalism, and gain undisturbed healing, inner clarity, and the courage to root inward and walk toward light in a restless world.
SumSum Connects is an integrated art space that focuses on art exchange and interaction.
SumSum is the sight of everything in its infancy and a state of continuity. The space aims to provide a sensualist contact with people, flatten contemporary art, remove the boundaries of contemporary aesthetics, and build a place for the public to understand and co-prosper with art.
