If My Homeland

大塊之形 2017.1, The Great Clod 2017.1, 油彩、畫布 Oil on canvas, 130 × 180 × 5 cm, 2017

The Streaky Pork Series -Flesh Landscape - The Hill of Eternal Distance, Oil on canvas, 91 × 72.5 cm, 2025

ODRADEK is pleased to announce that it will jointly presentIf My Hometown, a solo exhibition by artist Chang Ling, in collaboration with Taiwan-based galleryYiyun Art, on April 16 at the ODRADEK XL space.

Hometown, in its abstraction, is not a fixed geographical point. It resembles an organ at the edge of consciousness, constantly shifting form, breathing through time, and absorbing emotion. What once held beautiful memories has, after being endlessly fed by images and information, become something no longer mine. It is now shaped by society, technology, and collective memory.

In this space, every act of collective remembrance surfaces as déjà vu: a strange familiarity that feels deeply personal, yet is structured by shared visuals, data, and patterns of storytelling. We each believe our hometown is uniquely ours, yet it is built from the same cultural materials. With the rise of artificial intelligence, even memory itself is reconstructed—not by recalling the past, but by algorithmically rearranging fragments to create moments that feel like they might have happened. Déjà vu is no longer just a psychological slip; it becomes a crafted experience, a sense of familiarity produced by digital patterns.

But it does not stop at memory. It also generates prophecy.

Through massive datasets, prediction models begin to guide us toward visions of the future—rendered in image, in language, in ambient suggestion. This "hometown" now contains both the yesterday we’ve lost and the tomorrow not yet lived. It places us in a double illusion: as non-human systems quietly take hold of the narratives that once belonged to humans, we begin to question whether the past ever truly existed—and whether the future has already been written.

If My Hometown continues the inquiry that began in Illusion Society, shifting focus from the spectacle of the unreal to a slow, immersive duality. Here, I invite viewers to project their own visions alongside mine and to follow the shimmer of memory, however artificial. In this age of relentless stimulation, I hope to leave behind subtle traces that remind us what it means to remain alive.

【About ODRADEK】

Founded in 2014 by Ms. Simone Schuiten, ODRADEK Résidence Gallery is located in the heart of Brussels, Belgium, next to the popular Horta Art Museum. Over the past ten years, ODRADEK has been committed to cultural exchanges between Europe and Asia, and has represented and cooperated with more than one hundred artists, most of whom come from Belgium, France, Germany, as well as China, Japan, and South Korea. The gallery organizes exhibitions of communicative significance for many renowned artists, while encouraging young emerging artists to inspire their creations in foreign cultures and to engage in a dialogue with the local art ecology.

Seeking to develop a dialogue between the aesthetics of the Far East and those of the West, ODRADEK offers an art residency program every summer. Invited artists are able to fully immerse themselves in European culture and life during their residency in Brussels. ODRADEK has been collaborating with a wide range of art schools and contemporary art institutions in the European region, organizing regular exhibitions, workshops and seminars.

In 2023, the gallery expanded into ODRADEK XL, the second space of ODRADEK, with exhibitions following two fundamental curatorial lines: the exploration of writing and the traces of the brush; and cross-cultural practices and creations.
