From January 30, 2025 to March 22, 2026, the exhibition "The Origins of Dance Costumes in New China": Exhibition of Design Documents Donated by Li Keyu was held at the China Design Museum of the China Academy of Art. Launched thanks to the generous donation by Professor Li Keyu, a distinguished dance costume designer and painter, together with her family, this grand artistic event was hosted by the China Design Museum of the China Academy of Art and organized by the International Design Archives Center.

The exhibition attracted numerous professionals in art and design, young students, and general visitors, presenting a spectacular visual feast that blends rhythmic lines and stage aesthetics. As a comprehensive retrospective of Li Keyu’s artistic career, it vividly showcases the entire creative process from vivid sketches to finished dance costumes through precious sketch manuscripts, costume design drawings, and dance drama videos. It also reflects the lifelong exploration of a pioneer in China’s fashion design industry at the intersection of dance costume and visual culture.

Curated by the professional team of the China Design Museum, the exhibition covers an area of over 1,000 square meters and displays more than 300 donated manuscripts, documents, and related artifacts, most of which are being shown to the public for the first time. Centered on the creative theme "From Lines to Dance Costumes", the exhibition is thoughtfully divided into three sections: Solo: Ink Lines and Dance Costumes, Variation: Evolving Styles, and Trio: Costumes for the Stage.

This structure not only chronologically traces the artist’s career but also deeply analyzes her artistic ideas and methods. The "Solo" section focuses on dance sketches as the foundation of observation and expression. The "Variation" section reveals the evolution of her style shaped by artistic inheritance, creative transformation, and interactive teaching. The "Trio" section features costume designs for classic dance dramas such as The Fish Beauty and Swan Lake, demonstrating the complete journey from inspiration to final stage presentation.

By juxtaposing sketches, design drafts, stage photos, and archival documents, the exhibition comprehensively presents how Li Keyu integrated national aesthetics with modern design from a broad perspective of cultural exchange between China and the West and integration of ancient and modern elements. It also embodies the synchronized resonance between the development of stage art in New China and the fashion trends of the times.
