全山石教授
之潮热爱生活,热爱家乡,常常会追忆起他少年时代的美好记忆。他还热爱大自然,爱直面生活,爱对景写生,经常带着他亲手制作的画具,精心调配的调色油外出写生,不仅仅在江南故乡周围,还到川西、青海、甘南、新疆甚至到帕米尔髙原采风写生。记得他和中国美院高研班学员一起在俄罗斯苏兹达里蹲点写生时,之潮每天早出晚归,有时躲在墙角避开日晒,有时在屋檐下边躲雨边画画。在土坡上,在溪河畔,在教堂边写生,风雨无阻。他从生活中、从大自然中汲取灵感,使他的写生作品具有活力。从俄罗斯回来以后,他又去了山西北部写生,带回来的作品令人刮目相看,从取景到画面组织,从色调到色彩关系的处理,从用笔的肯定到运笔的生动性都与以往不同,有很大的提高。之潮的艺术之路并不平坦,但凭借他对艺术的热爱和坚韧不拔的艰苦奋斗精神,相信他的艺术创作之花将不断盛开!

Zee Huang has ardent love for life and his hometown, which bears his beautiful memories of his childhood.He has strong love for nature and often do plein-air in landscape, with his self-made painting equipment and elaborately-prepared paint medium, he often went out to paint not only around his hometown in the south of the Yangtze River,but also in western Sichuan, Qinghai, Southern Gansu, Xinjiang and even the Pamirs. I remember that when he and the students of the advanced class of the China Academy of Art squattedin Susdari, Russia. Every passing day saw him going out early in the morning and returning late in the evening.In the scorching sun, he continued painting in a corner of the wall and in a heavy shower, under the eaves. He was seen to be sketching on the soil slopes, by the streams and rivers, in front of churches, regardless of wind or rain. He took his inspiration from life and nature and gave vigor to his paintings. After his trip to Russia, he went to the north of Shanxi. The works he brought back were impressive. From frame to composition, use of color to contrast and use of brush strokes. Though his artistic road is not smooth, he will surely make greater achievements owing to his ardent love for art and his indomitable spirit.

之潮是位永不满足于现状的画家,在不断的否定自我基础上找寻和摸索新的发展,在不间断的观察对象中来丰富对物象的感觉。近年来,我从他在微信上发的部分写生作品中感到十分吃惊和欣喜。画幅不大,为了方便,好多是画在纸板上的。作品充满生机,令人刮目相看。画面的掌握能力、色彩的冷暖处理、用笔的大胆洒脱,表现到一种新的高度,是一种飞跃式的进步和令人惊喜的成绩。他的那些作品已经不再是简单的形体组合,而是由作者本人经由多变的色彩和洒脱笔触所创造的具有之潮本人品格特征的绘画世界和自己理想的审美情趣。

“Zee Huang’s Art”by Professor Hu Zhengyu
Zee is a painter that never contents himself with what he has achieved. He kept on exploring and developing himself on the basis of self-denial. He sought to enrich his experience in painting objects through constant observations. I felt really amazed and overjoyed at the works he displayed on his Wechat. The paintings are small and mostly painted on cardboard for the sake of convenience. They’re full of vitality and impressive. His wonderful composition, skillful use of cool and warm colors, bold and free use of strokes all represent a new level of his artistic attainment, marking a leap advance and amazing achievement in his career. His works are no longer simple combinations of forms, but rather a world of painting with distinctive features of the artist and ideal aesthetic feelings conveyed through varied color design alongside free and easy strokes. As for his comparatively fewer figure paintings, he has also made great progress in depicting the mental world of figures and mastery of image building.

之潮是一位行者,常年游走在美国和故土之间。之潮的变化从观察开始。他笔下的甘南村落,脱尽尘俗之气,尽显朴素与安详的气象,这种端庄朴实的写生方式,其实油画界已日益偏离。之潮画得诚恳,一点不“造次”,也不“主动”,但他所获得的,却是一种可贵的“绘画的真实”。他的精品会让我想到库尔贝,想到库尔贝那种夺人心魄的现实主义的力度。作为朋友,我还不敢奢谈之潮已取得了如何巨大的成就,但我确信,自小浸淫博物馆的体验与感悟,从一wenzhan了作用——行万里路,读万卷书,董其昌很早就为我们揭示了“行”与“知”的关系。之潮一定深谙个中三味。

“Life like a Song-Zee Huang & his Oil Paintings” by Professor Feng Zhiguo
Zee Huang is a traveler, traveling between America and his homeland. All his changes started from observation. Under his brush, the village in Gannan is free from vulgarity and presents an atmosphere of simplicity and serenity. Today’s circle of oil painting is virtually deviating from this simple and dignified painting style.Zee paints with great sincerity and faithfulness.He did not “make alterations”or “add subjective elements”to his works, and achieved “reality of oil painting”. His elaborate works remind me of French painter Gustave Courbet and his breath-taking realistic strength. As a friend, I cannot make extravagant claims about his achievements, but I am fully confident that his childhood contact with museums and his experience abroad will surely be conducive to him, just as Dong Qichang noted, “Read one thousand books and travel one thousand miles”, which reveals the relationship between “travel”and “knowledge”. I think Zee will agree with this.
