For her first solo exhibition in Switzerland, Emilia Bergmark (b. 1986, Selånger, SE) reflects on the rapidly changing natural environment of her Nordic homeland.

The motifs stand in strong contrast, as they are based on species surveys—conducted by Bergmark in collaboration with a forest biologist—of the rich, biodiverse Kerrosmäkiforest and a nearby tree plantation lacking such ecological variety.

Alongside these works, the Copenhagen-based artist presents new ceramic pieces and a site-specific installation conceived for the gallery’s ceiling window. These works pay tribute to extinct and endangered species such as the dodo, the passenger pigeon, and the golden toad.

ABOUT ARTIST

Emilia Bergmark
Emilia Bergmark (b.1986) is a Swedish visual artist whose multidisciplinary installations combine sculpture, writing, interior design, film, and print. Her work often explores the relationship between humans and objects, examining how meaning and hierarchy are constructed from an anthropocentric perspective. Through this lens, Bergmark creates poetic and often humorous narratives that give voice to the non-human, staging scenes that reflect on the absurdities and contradictions of contemporary life. Her practice engages both material culture and systems of order, revealing the ways in which objects can mirror human behavior and belief. Based in Copenhagen, she continues to develop works that blur the line between storytelling and spatial experience.
