Come Explore Our Grade 8 AI Experience Exhibition!

What kind of AI literacy do we hope our students will develop, and how can these skills be activated in the classroom?
>>>>
Last week, at the Grade 8 AI Experience Exhibition in our middle school, students created exhibits and engaged in discussions based on a real, hands-on experience with AI.

"This poster is about your AI experience—can you walk me through how you used DeepSeek? Did you discover any interesting data or insights?"
This was just one of many questions posed to students by visitors. It was through such thoughtful follow-up questions that students were guided to clearly articulate their critical understanding, judgments, and reflections on AI.

AI Exhibition

Throughout their interactions with visitors, students spoke from a first-person perspective: describing what happened based on real experience (Objective), sharing their own thoughts and feelings (Reflective), explaining the significance of the experience (Interpretive), and reflecting on how they could use AI more responsibly in the future (Decisional).

AI Exhibition

All of this began with concrete AI tasks in Chinese class. Students not only had hands-on experience with various AI tools, but also continuously documented, reflected on, and organized their process—ultimately turning these reflections into the unique “AI Experience” posters displayed at the Exhibition.
|Types of AI Experiences Shared at the Exhibition
Visual
For example, using AI to add color to hand-drawn classical poems or transforming them into ink-painting style.
Textual
For example, using AI to rewrite or refine their own writing.
Consultation / Advice
For example, seeking guidance on how a middle school student might transition from a Chinese traditional school to an international school.
As Ms. Miranda Li, the coordinator of the Exhibition, shared, the focus of this learning project is not merely on “teaching students to use AI,” but on guiding them to form judgments through real experiences in which AI is deeply integrated into communication and expression.

Chinese Classes

Interestingly, AI did not diminish the role of Chinese language learning; on the contrary, it highlighted the importance of linguistic skills. At the Exhibition, students needed to listen attentively to visitors, respond to questions in real time, and continuously adjust their verbal explanations for different audiences. When interacting with AI, they had to ask clear questions and express themselves precisely to obtain meaningful responses. Reading and understanding AI-generated content was essential for making informed judgments and choices.
During the Exhibition, we were also delighted to observe that students demonstrated patience, adaptability, and engagement far beyond their usual classroom performance.
Their unique ways of thinking and expressing themselves highlighted the vibrant possibilities of learning when humans and technology intersect, and reminded us once again that—no matter how advanced technology becomes—human interaction and firsthand experience remain irreplaceably valuable.
