World Fair

Grade  8

The highly anticipated World Fair for our grade will be held on the afternoon of March 28th. At that time, students will visit each other in different classes and experience the rich and colorful cultures of different countries.

Each class represents three countries, and the students will create unique crafts for these countries, using them to decorate classrooms and design activities. The participating students can exchange cash for vouchers, which they can use during the event to participate in class games and purchase culturally rich crafts and foods. After participating in different activities, the students can collect stamps on their "passports" to record their experiences.

Over the past month, the students, organized by their administrative classes, have made thorough preparations for the World Fair. During this time, we have seen students ardently decorating classrooms; some even making exquisite specialty foods for this event and are prepared to share them on the World Fair. In geography class, students used the internet to survey folk cultural artifacts from different countries and demonstrated their class's research and creativity through the creation of distinctive cultural relics. From painting a Mona Lisa with a beard to making a Viking iron hat, through hands-on practice, these students have gained deep understandings of the origin and development of cultures in various countries. In the classroom, we can also find carefully crafted cultural games and informational posters made by students.

With these questions in mind: 'What is culture?' 'How should we properly understand and inherit culture?' 'Where do the differences between cultures manifest?' students excitedly strolled through the classrooms as the world fair finally began, hoping to experience diverse cultures. Active student volunteers formed a volunteer organization on-site to help maintain order, distribute refreshments, and organize activities. Through various preparations and efforts, each classroom became an exhibition area showcasing the distinctive cultural features of different countries, including clothing, cuisine, music, festivals, customs, and more. You can taste the cuisine of various countries, listen to different styles of music, and even perform characteristic dances with the music.

On the open space outside the World Fair posters on the fourth floor, there will also be spectacular performances prepared by students, including saxophone, violin, and pipa performances. In addition, the fashion show will be held on the basement floor is also a major highlight of the eighth grade World Fair. Two students from each class will wear clothing inspired by traditional and local elements from various countries and showcase diverse styles on the podium.

By participating in World Fair activities, the students felt as though they were traveling around the world in school. This activity not only enriches cultural knowledge cognitively, but also enables a firsthand understanding of the depth and connotations behind different cultures through personal practice.

This activity enhanced the connections between students within the class. The event enhanced students' hands-on skills and independent thinking abilities while also deepening their understanding of the role of global citizens. The conclusion of World  Fair does not mark the end of cultural exchange; students will continue to approach various cultures with sincerity and respect in their daily lives, accumulating valuable experiences.
