At present, Chongqing's two major convention and exhibition centers—the Chongqing International Expo Center and Yuelai International Convention Center in Yubei District and the Chongqing International Convention and Exhibition Center in Nan'an District—have become important platforms for optimizing the city's economic structure, expanding openness to the outside world, and displaying a good image.
However, the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League found that there is still a certain gap between Chongqing and the areas with developed modern convention and exhibition industry, which is mainly reflected in the weak comprehensive strength of market entities, the lack of high-end talents, and the guarantee mechanism for the convention and exhibition industry that needs to be improved.

Statistics showed that more than 1,000 registered companies related to conventions and exhibitions in Chongqing, and there are only more than 300 companies specializing in this industry, with a small number of exhibition-leading enterprises, a low degree of specialization, and a low degree of marketization. There are less than 50 exhibition companies with international exhibition experience. Although the city has ten colleges and universities offering convention and exhibition majors with more than 3,000 students on campus, the number of talents in the entire industry is only more than 6,000. Mid-to-high-end comprehensive planning, creative, and management talents are particularly scarce, which has become a significant bottleneck for the high-quality development of the conference and exhibition industry.
Therefore, the League proposed to develop the modern convention and exhibition industry and accelerate the cultivation of a new driving force for the city's convention and exhibition economy, which involves cultivating market entities and strengthening professional companies. At the same time, it is also necessary to enhance talent training, cultivate compound innovative talents, etc., and take multiple measures to strengthen the modern exhibition service industry.
Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce carefully processed the proposal. According to the commission, a series of policies have been introduced last May to promote the development of the modern exhibition industry. Chongqing will accelerate the construction of an international exhibition city and adhere to the development direction of internationalization, branding, marketization, specialization, digitalization, and greening, and promote the high-quality development of the exhibition industry.
Specifically, it includes promoting Yuelai International Convention and Exhibition City to formulate and improve development plans around convention and exhibition, design, and cultural tourism, accelerating the progress of upgrading existing venues, accelerating the transformation of digital hardware, and improving business complexes, hotels, and restaurants, transportation, and other supporting services; guide Nan'an District to accelerate the construction of the Guangyang Island International Conference Center, and initiate the construction demonstration work of the second phase of the Chongqing International Convention and Exhibition Center project.
At the same time, the city introduces top domestic and foreign convention and exhibition organizations, as well as societies and associations to set up branches and independent legal entities in Chongqing; support leading enterprises to become bigger and stronger, and promote small and medium-sized exhibitions enterprises to take the road of professional development of "small but specialized, precise, excellent and special," and further cultivates and strengthens the main body of the exhibition market. The high standard to do a good job of the municipal government-sponsored exhibitions, to support the market-oriented exhibitions to do better and more robust, and then introduce several industrial fit, economic bandwidth, regional radiation of a wide range of identification of the Convention and Exhibition projects, and to promote the integration of the convention and exhibition and industry, investment, tourism, consumption, and urban marketing development.
"We will also build a docking exchange platform to guide Chongqing's strong exhibition enterprises to carry out project cooperation with multinational ones and work together in Chongqing or go to the countries (regions) involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, European and American countries and emerging markets to run exhibitions and conferences. In the future, Chongqing citizens will see more 'high profile' exhibitions," said an official with the municipal commission of commerce.
